Book of The Month Subscription Review: September 2016
The Subscription Box: Book of the Month
The Cost: There are currently three membership plans to choose from, but you get the most bang for your buck when you select the 12-month plan. Shipping is always free. The cost of the plans are:
-
1-month plan = $16.99 per month
3-month plan = $14.99 per book, or $44.97
12-month plan = $11.99 per book, or $143.88
The Product: A panel of BOTM judges selects about 5 books and subscribers get to pick from these specially curated hardcover books each month. Skip any month you aren’t interested in and you even have the option to add up to two additional books for $9.99.
Why I Finally Joined: I’ve always loved reading but nowadays I find that the things I read are journal articles from the American College of Cardiology or scientific research papers for work. And when I’m not reading that, I spend too much time on the internet. I have access to the city public library and even own an Amazon Kindle but I find it too distracting to read on a tablet. I like the feel of a real book. I want to be able to turn the page and let my fingers skim through the paragraphs. There’s no feeling like opening up a good book and getting lost in it.
So when I came across an email from Book of The Month with an offer to try their subscription book service for just $5, I couldn’t pass up the offer!
My first pick is Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue, this book is about an immigrant family and their struggles in obtaining the American dream which I feel I take for granted sometimes having been born and raised in America.
My second pick (I couldn’t just pick one great read!) is The Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. They had me at Moscow. I’m a Bond fan. From Russia with Love was the first thing I thought of followed by a quick review on Goodreads.
COUPON Expires 9/31/16: Use coupon code READ5 to get your first month for only $5!

The Pajama Top
Let’s talk about my latest obsession, the pajama top. When does the interest in Pajama Tops begin? I did a key word search on pajama top and pajama blouse and according to GoogleTrends, the pajama top started gaining some interest in 2004. The interest in pajama top peaks in November 2015– thats a slow and long running trend that has lasted almost 11 years.
Interestingly enough, this trend only seem to exist in North America but I’ve seen some pretty convincing pictures of why this trend will continue to slay well into 2017 from @deborarosa, a Parisian fashion blogger:
and @shhtephs:
@chloehollywood gives us two ways to wear the pajama top:
I don’t need anymore convincing. I live in Philadelphia and we’re always arriving fashionably late for everything, including this trend. It’s so laid back, literally.
I love to share my finds so I’ve curated some pajama tops that you can look at from these retailers:

This full on Pajama Jumpsuit is ridiculous!!:
